light is rather dim here desipte windows flanking me on all sides. wonder what kind of effects computer screen light has on the eyes. wish i had some music on. silence nice too. dinner with dad. upcoming. missed real estate phone calls and a mounting apathy all add up to a dim portait of a man. self reference is the lowest point of reference but the only one we can all relate to. little sheetrock shells often make for sorry second skins.

i have been reading selections from CONTENT today, a book/magazinish thing which is filled with strong collages of popular imagery, pixilated maps, photoshopped heads and bodies, sexdual organs and political boundaries. they have a wonderful interview with martha stewart in which she (accidentally) talks about colonizing global taste. she also discusses the manganimity of her public persona as a neo homemaker examplar while giving the masses access to her private estates and penthouse lofts. THE article includes a lovely image of martha communicating with a skeleton on an operating table. "Are you like a surrogate mother?" asks the skeleton "definitely"

Here's a question: Why do so many real estate advertisements boast that subway tiles have been used in the bathroom? Take for example this description from a real estate website which shall remain nameless:

This light affordable STUDIO, is perfect for the first time buyer or for use as a pied-a-terre. The kitchen has been recently renovated with white cabinets and a pretty white back splash. The bathroom has new white subway tiles and sparkles.

To be honest, my first associations with the subway are not clean and hygienic, which is what I expect from a bathroom. In fact, believe it or not, when I think of subway tile I think of grimy, dirty walls that have been greased by the grubby fingers of every kind of New Yorker. The snotty nosed children, greasy haired wall street brokers, homeless panhandlers and sweaty tourists all brush up against, touch, lean on subway tiles. Would you allow your naked body to come in contact with anything on a subway platform? Nothing against these people - I'm one of them myself - but I don't want to enter the sanctuary of clean - my bathroom and think, "gee, this reminds me of the subway".

Maybe I'm just crazy. Maybe everyone loves the subway except for me. But I doubt it. Subway riders would take cabs if they could afford it. They would also buy nicer tiles for their bathrooms.

My alternative.... heathceramics. Check out their awesome tile products. Subdued colors with a richness that only comes from hand produced ceramics.
